In a recent video published by pro athlete / content creator "Skills with Phil", who has been riding for GT Bicycles for the last few years, it seems athletes of the brand were asked to join a group video chat where they were let known that they would all no longer be riding for the brand going forward.
This news seems to have been a shock to most of those at GT and seemingly is coming at the direction of their parent company, Pon Holdings, who aquired the brand back in 2021 in a multi company deal valued at $810 million dollars.
In Phil's video he makes it clear most on the call didn't fully see this news coming, as well as the somber nature of the video chat, with legendary coach Steve Spencer reportedly holding back tears as the news was delivered. Phil does make it clear this decision is Pon's who appears to be taking the GT brand into a neutral mode for 2025, where it plans to sell remaining inventory before seemingly restructuring its buiness model.
The news must have come as a serious blow to a lot of riders for GT as it is so late into the year, and most 2025 riding contracts are few and far between at this point. Phil, who has an impressive following of more than 571k Subscribers on his channel "Skills with Phill", goes on to explain how much of his income is tied to sponsorship and the uncertainty this news brings to his life.
We will update you as we learn more.
